Christmas in the Village 2012

If you’re going to be in the SouthEast Michigan area this next Saturday, Dec. 1,  you won’t want to miss our Christmas in the Village festival in downtown Ortonville. It’s put on by the Ortonville DDA, Brandon Parks & Rec, the Ortonville Historical Society and a whole bunch of sponsors including Hamilton’s Feed & Fuel, Wireless zone, Lisa Dwyer Mortgage, the Lions club and our many wonderful volunteers.

There’s a 5k Jingle Bell Run starting at the Intermediate School at 1pm, followed by Santa’s Shop at the Fire hall from 2pm til 6pm. You’ll find more vendors at Mabelena’s Quilt & Comfort from 10am until 3pm. The Old Mill will be serving hot dogs, soup, snacks and drinks as well as hosting crafts at the Old Mann School house with decorated hand-loomed rugs for sale. The Ortonville United Methodist Church is also putting on a ham dinner from 4pm til 7pm for a free will donation along with a bake sale. Speaking of bake sales, the Eastern Stars will be hosting a cookie and bake sale at the Masonic Hall on South Street from 2pm til 4pm and the Edna Burton Senior Center on Ball St. will be having a Craft, Treasure and Bake sale on Friday and Saturday.

The Parade starts at 3pm and will start on Ball Street in front of the Edna Burton Senior center, run east on Ball turning south onto Church street, west on Mill and then end on South Street near the Fire Hall. Santa will be riding in a carriage provided by Top Hats & Tails before heading over to the Old Town hall to meet with the kids. Photos will be available for $5. Kids will be able to see a REAL reindeer and alpacas at the Heritage garden next to the Old Town Hall. The Coffee Zone will be selling coffee and hot chocolate on the porch, while Mrs. Claus will be reading stories inside the Old Town hall. Free Kids Crafts will be available from 3pm til 5pm at the Fire hall and they can do a Free peanut butter pinecone bird feeder craft over at Hamilton’s Feed.

Don’t miss the  branding and blacksmithing demonstration outside of Hamilton’s Feed on Mill Street.

You can donate a new, unwrapped toy for the Community Christmas Toy Store at the drop box at Art of Life on South Street all day.

Thanks to Hamilton’s Feed & Fuel, Top Hats & Tails will be offering FREE carriage rides through town after the parade. There will be Caroling outside the Old Town hall and the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at 5:45. Our Village president Wayne Wills and Village manager John Lyons will be flipping the switch.

We’re so pleased to have Bob MacArthur as our Town Crier. He will be walking thru town giving directions and we also have plenty of signs to help you find your way. If you need any more information, please go to the Ortonville DDA website (click the link), or call our Executive Director Molly Lalone at 248-627-8070.

You’ll be able to find me at the Fire hall where we’ll have vendors selling fleece blankets, knit creations, recycled denim fashions, hand-made lotions, wooden toys, wreaths, hand-dipped pretzels, hot cider, donuts, fudge and right outside the doors on South Street we’ll have a kettle corn vendor. Plenty of gift ideas and snacks for everyone!

Christmas in the Village is a really wonderful event that reminds folks of why we love living in a small town. Norman Rockwell would be proud!

Make sure to stop in and say hello if you can make it. I’ll be in town all day!

Have a wonderful holiday, where ever you are!

xoxo Pam

p.s. Thanks to Bernie Solo for the beautiful pictures of last years event!

In response to the stormy seas of life, my husband Blake and I have created this website to be a Current of Inspiration, a wave of love and joy to wash away hate and fear. By posting every week, it's our commitment to making our world a better place. We hope you find it uplifting and will share it with your friends! Thanks for stopping by! xoxo
