Ishtar Goddess of Boundaries

*This card comes from the Goddess Guidance Oracle card deck by Doreen Virtue, Ph.D.*

Ishtar“A sincere desire to give of service is wonderful. However, there’s a distinction between giving of yourself and giving up yourself. If you feel tired, guilty, or resentful while helping others, then you’re not truly helping them, are you? You’re injecting poisonous energies into the relationship, and then no one benefits. Step back and reassess the situation. As you respect your own boundaries, others will begin to recognize and respect them within you, and within themselves as well. Now that’s a healthy behavior to teach to others!”

When I pulled this card, I was reminded of this post I wrote a little while back about defending yourself. I don’t know about you, but this is a fairly new concept for me. I didn’t even know I had boundaries until 2010.  :)

For me, protecting my energy begins with self-awareness and an attitude adjustment. If I feel myself slipping into martyrdom, then I know it’s time to step back and reassess my situation. That poison of resentment is toxic to both parties involved and after having learned some hard lessons, I don’t want any part of it in my life.

Just last night, after dinner I could feel my mood shifting into something ugly. Although I had wanted to work on writing my new book, I knew if I tried it would be a difficult struggle. So instead, I took a long, hot bath in some Epsom salts and then did a bit of yoga stretching. By the time I came out of the bathroom I felt like a new woman. After a good night’s sleep, I’m feeling much more ready and willing to write something worth reading.

super hero kidHow about you, my friendly blog reader?

How are you protecting your energy these days?

I’d love to read about it in the comments below.
